A Note from Mrs. Brady, Principal - October 22, 2021

Dear Shelton Families,

I hope you all had a great week. This is a repeat announcement about Fall Celebrations, just to ensure all families have the information. Please note the updates in bold.

With gratitude,

We have Fall Celebrations coming up on October 29th. As a school, we value inclusivity and belonging, and therefore we offer two choices for our families:

  • A Halloween themed celebration in classrooms from 2:15-3:15pm, including a Halloween Parade outside, weather permitting at 2:30pm.
    • More information to come for families who would like to watch the parade or volunteer to help with classroom celebrations.
      • NEW: Students will parade outside around the school, in costumes, starting at 2:30pm. Families are welcome come to school to watch the parade. Some great spots to stand are:
        • Around the school on the grass
        • At the main entrance on the stairs/grass
          • Please leave the sidewalks around the school clear for our parade
      • NEW: Please look for communication from your child’s classroom teacher about classroom parties.
    • Please note that no students or staff will be wearing costumes to school. All students and staff participating in Halloween celebrations will change into their costumes at 2:15pm.
    • Costumes must be easy to put on by the student and cannot include weapons, blood, gore or inappropriate themes for an elementary school. Students should refrain from using hair dye or make-up.
      • NEW: Students should not wear inflatable costumes to classroom celebrations.
    • All students must be able to wear their masks to adhere to COVID protocols.
  • An alternative STEM celebration in the Library, from 2:15-3:15pm, for students who do not wish to participate in Halloween parties.
    • This celebration is hosted by Dr. Walter and Mrs. Hampleman and will include creative STEM activities. If you would like to volunteer to support this celebration, please reach out to Dr. Walter at kim.walter@jeffco.k12.co.us
    • Please let your child’s classroom teacher know if you would like your child to attend the STEM celebration.

Trick or Treat Street at Golden High School

Golden High School is hosting a Trick or Treat Street on October 29th from 5:00-7:00pm. The event is inside the building and therefore masks are required.

Notes from PTSA

Top 3 from the PTSA:

  1. We have two great PTSA sponsored events coming up in November that your child engage with now: Reflections art program and STEM Fair – watch your Friday folders or visit the website links to learn more, how to submit projects, and for parent volunteer opportunities!
  2. Plan to participate in our second Chow Down for the Coyotes dine out over Halloween (Oct 29-31) with Lil Ricci’s Pizza when 20% of sales will be donated all weekend.
  3. It’s time to VOTE!  There are school board elections on the ballot, as well as three very important state-wide ballot measures that affect public school education funding.  We encourage you to read about the PTSA positions and find resources to recorded board candidate forums HERE.

P.S. – we are excited to announce the Gaga Pit will be delivered to the school on Monday!  And thanks for your patience with Spirit Wear – there was a delay in production, but the orders arrived and were distributed today!
